30 Jun 2012 - Gunung Datuk Rembau
Gunung Datuk is located in Rembau. Take exit 223 (Pedas Exit) of the North South highway. Immediately after paying toll, take left exit towards Pedas on road N9. Travel for 3 km until you hit a roundabout. Take 3 o'clock to road N102 and travel for 2.5 km to a T junction. Turn right towards Road 1 and drive for 8 km until you hit a new flyover. On top of the flyover, turn left to road N111. Drive along N111 for 5.5km and turn left towards Gunung Datuk parking area. It is a small road flanked by rubber trees running for 1.2 km
Parking space is quite limited. However the toilet and rest area are great. You have to pay RM5 for registration and RM3 for parking. The money goes to upkeep the facilities and maintaining the track.
About 50 of us from the office assembled at the parking area by 8 am. I left home at 5 am. Reached Pedas exit at 6 am. Trying to look for a prayer room at Pedas exit but it was none. Thus had to drive further towards Rembau town. Performed the morning prayers at the local mosque. As I exited the mosque parking, saw a Pasar Tani site and stopver to buy a pack of nasi lemak with fried chickec and egg. Also got a piece of lemang.
Start to trek at 8 am and reached the summit by 10 am. The trail starts from the steps on the right if you are facing the registration counter. Follow the steps down to a small pool, Cross the bridge to the other side and start climbing. The track was tough since we need to climb the hilly gradient non stop to the peak for 2 hours. The attraction at the peak was the hugh rocks that we had to climb to reach the top for a 360 panoramic view. Metal ladders had been placed against the rock for the climb. Since the weather was misty, we can hardly see the surrounding view. The wind was strong and chilly. The steps we newly erected aluminium ladders replacing the old rusted ones. They were secured by cables to the rock. There were 2 climbing stage before reaching the top.
There were traces of people camping at the rock foot. The rock formation were not large enough to hold many climbers and were uneven for camping purposes.
The climb downhill took 1 hour and by 12pm some of us were sipping coffee at one of the stalls at the parking area. I reached KL by 3.30pm

I had brought along a small pan, kicap and 5 pack of ice lemon tea from home. I helped to prepare the rice and cooked the eggs. The rest of the team members prepared vege soup, salted fish in chillies, sardines and hot tea. We cooked them on three stoves made of rocks from the stream and two aluminum boy-scout stoves.
The organiser BOME, helped to erect a shelther for praying and changing room. However, one has to be imaginative to ease themselves. After lunch most of us went for a dip in the water. The water was not deep enough for a swim.
Everyone was ready to leave by 3.45pm. The return trip to the foothill took 1 hr 15 minutes and we were back by the parking lot by 5.00pm. It was a non stop walk all the way down. I was back home by 5.15 pm.
